Calls for President Donald Trump to be impeached are getting louder. Headlines continue to pour in about supposed conspiracies and scandals taking place in the Trump administration. While those allegations may or may not be true, one thing is clear: The major media are working to bring down President Trump. In one way, it is like Watergate. The real scandal then, however, was not what happened at the Watergate Hotel, but the series of lawless moves taken by Nixon’s persecutors to bring him down. The following day, acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe said Comey “enjoyed broad support within the FBI and still does to this day.” A strange back-and-forth has erupted between the White House and the FBI about Comey’s reputation. Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey Tuesday night. The liberal media had a meltdown: It was Trump’s “Tuesday night massacre”; it was a taste of fascism; America is now experiencing a full-blown constitutional crisis. CBSN, desperate for more coverage to keep the pointless story alive, even sent a reporter to Sochi, Russia, to track down Vladimir Putin for his comments. He was in full hockey garb when the reporter finally got to him for questions. His response: “Your question looks very funny for me.” The scene in Washington is what you’d expect to see in a high school cafeteria. Meanwhile, as America’s major media is hypnotized by the White House drama, the very thing they fear in a Trump presidency will soon happen in Europe.

France has just muddled through a hugely important election. Neither of its mainstream parties made it to the final round—revealing the depth of the political crisis the nation faces. The far-right National Front didn't win, but it achieved its best-ever result. Meanwhile, Britain is also preparing for an election. Here the main left-wing party, the Labour Party, has been taken over by politicians arguably more extreme than the National Front’s. In today's program, Trumpet contributing editor Richard Palmer examines what the rise in these extremists says about the state of these countries.

Objectivity in journalism today is virtually dead. Opinion, bias and the greater “truth” now take precedent over facts and evidence. Yesterday, British author Melanie Phillips discussed with the Trumpet staff her experiences in journalism’s dramatic shift away from truth over the past several decades. On today’s show, we take a closer look at some of her comments and examine how truth and objectivity have been thrown out the window when it comes to reporting the news of the world.

In a lecture this week in Edmond, Oklahoma, British journalist Melanie Phillips spoke about the West’s failure to identify the source of many of the world’s problems, especially when it comes to disputes in the Middle East. “The whole basis of the way we look at it is wrong,” she said when speaking about the Isreali-Palestinian conflict. The real solution is to address the cause of the problem. “We have to stop the people trying to exterminate Israel,” she said.
