#539: Snapchat, Smartphones and the Closing of the Teenage Mind

Aired Friday, August 4, 2017   ·   07:00 AM CDT   ·   56 minutes

Teens are zoning out of the world and zeroing in on their smart phones. That’s the subject of Jean Twenge’s latest piece for the Atlantic titled “Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation?” She noted that while teenagers are engaging in less risky behavior like drugs, sex and crime, the rate of depression and suicide are still climbing. “There’s not a single exception. All screen activities are linked to less happiness, and all nonscreen activities are linked to more happiness,” she wrote. On today’s Trumpet Daily Radio Show, we discuss the root cause of this troubling trend and explain God’s solution to the problem.

Aired Thursday, August 3, 2017   ·   07:00 AM CDT   ·   56 minutes

London is in the grip of a new crime wave. Knife and gun crime is soaring, but criminals are switching to a new weapon—one that’s even easier to get a hold of. Attacks using acid or other corrosive substances have almost doubled in the last 12 months. When police crack down on one weapon, criminals switch to another. TheTrumpet.com's assistant managing editor Richard Palmer examines the real solution to Britain’s crime problems. Also on today’s show, Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar and how it relates to today’s news events.

#536: The Herald of a Peaceful World Tomorrow

Aired Tuesday, August 1, 2017   ·   07:00 AM CDT   ·   56 minutes

The daily news reminds that we are not living in a godly civilization. Many people are trying to forge this present world into a utopia—but their efforts will always fall short. Why? People try to answer that question, but there is only one source that provides the answer—the Holy Bible. The Bible says we are living in Satan’s world; the evidence of this fact is abundant. But the Bible also tells us that a new, peaceful civilization is on its way. On today’s Trumpet Daily Radio Show, we look at the big stories today and explain why only the return of Jesus Christ can solve these colossal problems.

#535: Does the West Have the Will to Survive?

Aired Monday, July 31, 2017   ·   07:00 AM CDT   ·   56 minutes

U.S. President Donald Trump recently said, “The fundamental question of our time is whether the West has the will to survive.” He asked, “Do we have the confidence in our values to defend them at any cost?” These are excellent questions. Looking at how much contempt there is within the West—particularly America and Britain—for the values that built our nations, it is difficult to see us defending them. On today’s Trumpet Daily Radio Show, Trumpet managing editor Joel Hilliker examines the dangers in a society coming to hate itself as much as its enemies do.

#534: The Ambassadors of Peace

Aired Friday, July 28, 2017   ·   07:00 AM CDT   ·   56 minutes

The leaders of this world are failing to solve, or even identify, the real problems of our age. Left-leaning leaders are sounding alarm bells over nonissues like climate change, while their opponents bicker among themselves and fail to stand up for traditional values. Humanity is failing to achieve peace. But God expects those who know His truth to behave differently—to be ambassadors for His way of life. On today’s Trumpet Daily Radio Show, we explain why only God can solve the problems of this world.

#533: Europe, Japan, China and the New World Order

Aired Thursday, July 27, 2017   ·   07:00 AM CDT   ·   53 minutes

The world is changing before your eyes. For decades, the United States has dominated the globe with unshakable alliances with Western Europe and Japan. But now, these alliances don’t look so unshakable and both Europe and Japan are moving away from the U.S. A new alliance is rising, and it profoundly threatens America. Assistant managing editor for theTrumpet.com Richard Palmer discusses the rise of this new world order—and the one source that forecast it in precise detail years ago.

#532: Why God’s Work Devotes So Many Resources to Youth Programs

Aired Wednesday, July 26, 2017   ·   07:00 AM CDT   ·   54 minutes

Toward the end of his life, Herbert W. Armstrong began to realize the critical importance of educating the young people in God’s Church. He initiated numerous youth programs in order to help young people realize their potential and deepen their understanding of the Bible—all to strengthen families in the Church. God’s work today follows those same traditions started by Mr. Armstrong. On today’s Trumpet Daily Radio Show, Stephen Flurry explains why God pays special attention to young people in His Church.

#531: The Conspiracy Against the Family

Aired Tuesday, July 25, 2017   ·   07:00 AM CDT   ·   56 minutes

Britain’s advertising authority wants to make it illegal to show gender stereotyping in commercials. Showing men and women in their traditional roles is too demeaning and unhealthy for society, the reasoning goes. Meanwhile, showing rape on prime time television is permissible because it’s “historically accurate.” Britain’s moral compass has shattered. The traditional family is being attacked on every level. What is the real source of this attack and why is it happening? We discuss this and more on today’s Trumpet Daily Radio Show.

#530: How to Resist the Pull of the World

Aired Monday, July 24, 2017   ·   07:00 AM CDT   ·   56 minutes

Since the terrorist attack near the Temple Mount on July 14, Israel has installed metal detectors to improve security of Jerusalem’s holiest site. These new security measures immediately prompted Palestinian leaders to incite violence against Israelis. On Friday, a knife-wielding Palestinian broke into an Israeli home in the West Bank and murdered three Jews in cold blood because of Israel’s “attack” on the al-Aqsa Mosque. Few in Western media, however, are willing to tell the truth about what is happening on the Temple Mount.

Also on the program, Stephen Flurry discusses how quickly the United Kingdom’s largest pharmaceutical company caved in to pressure after receiving criticism for refusing to reduce the price of its contraceptives. On this program, he discusses the importance of standing strong in the Lord against the pulls of this world.
