Early into United States President Barack Obama’s first term in office he said he believed in American exceptionalism just as “Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism.” His comment brought strong criticism from the right. Some even wondered if President Obama understood what the term “American exceptionalism” meant. He later backtracked on the comment and tried to clarify what exactly he meant. Ironically, current Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s view of American exceptionalism is even more left than President Obama’s. When asked about it a little over a year ago, he pointedly said, “I don’t like the term.” On today’s show, Stephen Flurry discusses American exceptionalism, what it is, where it came from and what America must do to hold onto it.

Science has become a god in our society. In today’s world, many carelessly accept what is produced from the scientific community as doctrine. Though, recent studies have revealed that in many areas of science, bias, flawed methodology, fraud and laziness have contributed to wrong conclusions. Yet many still carelessly believe what they read or hear, and any dissenters are cast out of the scientific community. How has modern science gotten so off base? For nearly 20 years, the Trumpet has predicted that Iraq would eventually come under Iranian control. In the recent fight against the Islamic State, the United States has engaged in a limited way in the form of air strikes, while Iran has dominated the ground below. America’s involvement has served as a cover and, in many ways, even cleared a path for Iran to go in and take over Iraq. In a recent piece for Commentary, Max Boot wrote that when the Islamic States is defeated the biggest beneficiary would not be the United States or Iraq, but Iran. The United States paid a heavy price to take the Iraqi city of Fallujah in 2004. When the U.S. pulled out of Iraq under President Barack Obama, the city quickly fell into the hands of Islamic State terrorists. Now Iran is calling the shots in the offensive to retake Fallujah and is absorbing any territory it can in the fight against the Islamic State. On today’s show, we explain how America’s strategy in the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq is actually paving the way for Iran to take over.

The United States State Department admitted this week that it intentionally deleted an eight-minute exchange in an archived video. The video was from a December 2013 press conference where then-State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki essentially admitted that the Obama administration lied about having secret talks with Iran in 2011. With the Iran nuclear deal signed, news about how the administration manufactured stories to push the deal forward continues to be unveiled.

In addition to manipulating the media on the Iran deal, the administration has also skewed facts about how U.S. sailors were treated when they were taken hostage by Iran earlier this year. Legislation was introduced last week that will compel the Obama administration to admit whether or not it had to pay Iran for the release of the hostages. At the time, top U.S. officials, including John Kerry and Joe Biden, praised Iranian authorities for the way they “helped” the U.S. sailors.

Many today, even in the professing Christian world, scoff at the idea of God’s supernatural intervention in world affairs. Iran’s government last week elected Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati to lead the Assembly of Experts, the body responsible for picking the nation’s next supreme leader. Jannati is a hard-liner who has encouraged suicide bombings and, in 2014, stated that Iran’s number one slogan was “Death to America.” When asked about the election of Jannati, United States State Department spokesman Mark Toner shared a laugh with reporters and had no comment on the issue.
