Joe Biden’s national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, said that the U.S. has substantial leverage over the Taliban should Americans be trapped in Afghanistan after the U.S. withdrawal. According to Sullivan, the United States can use billions of dollars to ensure those Americans are given safe passage out of the country. It’s as if America is agreeing to the ransom even before the hostages are taken captive.

On Friday, Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller took to social media to call for the military’s senior leaders to be held accountable for their catastrophic failures. In rapid response to his courageous speech, Colonel Scheller was relieved of his command.
