It’s finally happening! According to Haaretz, archaeologists in Jerusalem have started to “Drop Bible, Pick Up Science to Solve Jerusalem Puzzles.” In his January 18 piece, Ariel David describes the four-year project that is underway to accurately radio-carbon date Jerusalem’s layers. What’s inferred from the piece is that the use of the Bible in archaeology was inherently unscientific and only when carbon samples are used can we be sure actual science is taking place. On today’s program, host Brent Nagtegaal compares Haaretz’s treatment of the discovery of King David’s Palace to the actual facts on the ground, including, none other that carbon 14 dating.
