In the United States, the world of politics is rife with corruption and scandal. For most, this is no reason to be concerned about America’s future. Some have even gone so far as to celebrate character flaws—as if these many flaws are actually positive character traits! On today’s program, Stephen Flurry explains what the Bible says about character and its impact on an individual’s ability to lead.

Many Americans have been too distracted by this circus of an election season to notice some alarming trends happening around the world. Major media have blown petty issues about both candidates into huge stories, and most people are lapping it up. In a recent piece for USA Today Glenn Reynolds noted that most of the big issues facing America are being ignored during this election season. He writes, “In a healthier society, our election would turn on these issues. An important panel at the United Nations Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (UNESCO) on Wednesday morning approved a controversial resolution that ignores Jewish and Christian ties to the Temple Mount. Ronald Reagan said in 1986 that he felt “the nine most terrifying words in the English language are, ‘I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.’” Skepticism of big government has been one of the staples of conservatives in America and Britain; both Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher endorsed this view.
