We’re going to talk about authoritarianism today:

• A military coup in Turkey last Friday failed—and Turkey’s president is cracking down on the people who tried to oust him—and solidifying his personal power.

• Terrorist attacks in France and Germany this past week have increased Europeans’ anger at their politicians for not doing enough to stop these attacks. The stage is being set for more authoritarian leadership there.

• A 2012 study reported that people who are politically conservative tend to be more authoritarian—but this year the study’s authors came out and said, Oops—actually it’s liberals who tend to be more authoritarian. We’ll talk about why.

Finally, something completely different: how my experience in summer camp as a teen helped my relationship with my parents.
