- Instability continues to unfold in North Africa. Sudan’s long-standing leader, Omar al-Bashir, has been ousted. Iran wants strong ties with this nation in a bid to control the Red Sea, and could increase its efforts in Bashir’s absence.
- Libya is on the brink of exploding, with 600,000 migrants trying to make their way toward Europe. So far, Europe’s response has been divided and weak.
- Benjamin Netanyahu secured another term as Israel’s prime minister. Now we can expect the Trump administration to finally unveil its Middle East peace plan.
- President Donald Trump is sanctioning Venezuelan oil exports to Cuba and trying to limit Russia’s influence. This could strengthen Europe’s influence on Venezuela.
