- North Africa witnessed a coup this week, in the jihadi-plagued nation of Mali. Europe views Mali as a linchpin in its military presence in North Africa, and it is eager to tamp down political instability there.
- Vladimir Putin’s leading opposition figure in Russia was poisoned and is fighting for his life in a hospital. He joins a long list of critics of President Putin who have suffered a similar fate.
- In Belarus, protests against the president continued in force this week, and when journalists went on strike, Putin sent in an army of Russian state-sponsored journalists to replace them.
- We also talk about the United States considering selling F-35 jets to the United Arab Emirates and deciding to impose stringent new sanctions on Iran, Israeli and German air forces training together, California suffering a series of serious curses, and some takeaways from the Democratic National Convention.
